Canadian authorities announced that three people connected to a cruise ship affected by hantavirus remain under preventive isolation.

Two of them traveled aboard the MV Hondius and were instructed to remain at home while being monitored for possible symptoms.

The third person was not on the cruise ship but shared a flight with an individual showing signs of the disease.

The case has drawn international attention because of the outbreak aboard the MV Hondius, where three passengers died in connection with hantavirus.

Health authorities continue implementing preventive measures as the vessel heads toward the Canary Islands.

Canada monitors individuals linked to the cruise ship

According to EFE, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and Health Minister Marjorie Michel released the information Thursday through an official statement.

Authorities stated that two people who traveled on the cruise ship remain isolated in their homes.

They also confirmed that both individuals are being monitored for possible development of the illness.

A third person was placed in self-isolation after sharing a flight with an individual who displayed symptoms associated with hantavirus.

However, authorities clarified that the individual is not considered high risk.

According to the statement, the World Health Organization also does not classify that person within a high-risk category.

Health officials continue monitoring the situation while maintaining preventive protocols.

So far, no further details have been released regarding the health status of the isolated individuals.

In addition to the two citizens who left the cruise ship before the outbreak began, four other Canadians currently remain aboard the vessel.

The MV Hondius is traveling toward the Canary Islands in Spain.

Minister Anita Anand stated that she remains in contact with the four Canadian citizens still on the ship.

She also reported that Canadian consular personnel are traveling to the Canary Islands.

The goal is to oversee the disembarkation process for Canadian passengers.

Authorities are seeking to ensure that all public health protocols are followed upon the vessel’s arrival.

The cruise ship originally departed from Ushuaia.

It is expected to arrive in Spanish territory this weekend.

Authorities continue coordinating health measures involving both passengers and crew members.
