Walgreens is once again raising concerns in the retail sector after announcing another store closure. The chain confirmed that one of its locations will shut down in the coming weeks.

Customers in Rockford, Illinois, now have a date marked on their calendars. The store located at 5503 E. State Street will cease operations on May 19.

This notice means that those who rely on that pharmacy will need to reorganize their purchases—especially individuals who regularly fill prescriptions.

The company stated that prescription records will be transferred automatically. Customers will be able to visit the location at 2525 S. Alpine Road.

Rockford Loses Another Walgreens Store

This is not an isolated event in the city. In January of last year, the Kishwaukee Street store also closed.

Additionally, in February 2024, the downtown location at 1201 E. State Street shut down. The pattern confirms a gradual reduction of stores in Rockford.

Walgreens operates approximately 8,500 stores in the United States, with several thousand more worldwide.

The closure in Illinois aligns with similar decisions in other cities. The company also confirmed the shutdown of a location in Seattle.

A spokesperson stated that the Jackson Street store will close on May 19, 2026. “Customers will still be able to pick up their prescriptions at this location until the closing date,” the company said.

After that, patients will be redirected to another nearby pharmacy, ensuring continuity in medical treatments. This approach reflects a broader restructuring of the store network.

The company maintains that it aims to optimize operations and resources.
