The Mexican president indicated that her decision will depend on the final stance of the United States on the issue.
On March 4th, President Donald Trump announced the 25% tariff on Mexican steel and aluminum exports.
After a call with Sheinbaum, the measure was postponed until April 2nd.
Sheinbaum thanked for the «respectful dialogue» between both nations and highlighted the role of Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, in the negotiations.
She mentioned that her government is keeping in touch with the national steel and aluminum producers.
The tariffs mainly affect Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam in steel, and the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and China in aluminum.
