A meteor that entered Earth’s atmosphere caused a powerful explosion over the northeastern United States during the afternoon of May 30, generating a loud boom that was heard in several states across the region.

The detonation caused alarm among residents of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, who reported hearing a loud explosion and even feeling vibrations in some homes and buildings.

The Blast Was Heard in Several States

According to El Heraldo de México, the phenomenon was reported by numerous users on social media shortly after it occurred.

Residents of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire said the boom was heard with great intensity.

Some reports indicated that the shock wave generated by the meteor explosion shook houses and buildings in different communities across the region.

Videos capturing the moment of the blast began circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Other recordings shared online showed the brief passage of the celestial body as it crossed Earth’s atmosphere before disintegrating.

The intensity of the sound surprised residents, who initially did not know the origin of the phenomenon.

NASA reported that the meteor disintegrated at 2:06 p.m. over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire.

According to the space agency, the object was traveling at more than 120,000 kilometers per hour.

It was also at an altitude of more than 60 kilometers when the explosion occurred.

NASA said the energy released by the meteor during the event was equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT.

The data helped measure the magnitude of the phenomenon that temporarily worried residents in the area.

Authorities and specialists closely followed the reports to determine the characteristics of the event.

The Meteor Disintegrated Without Causing Damage

According to the American Meteor Society, the celestial body was approximately 0.9 meters wide.

The organization said the meteor likely entered Earth’s atmosphere near the border between New Hampshire and Massachusetts, US.

Despite the intensity of the explosion and the noise heard by thousands of people, authorities ruled out major consequences.

No injuries were reported as a result of the phenomenon.

No property damage was recorded in the northeastern United States either.

Authorities confirmed that the event was limited to the passage and subsequent disintegration of the meteor in the atmosphere.

Videos shared by users on social media helped document one of the most striking moments of the phenomenon, which captured the attention of residents across several states in the region.

Although the boom initially created uncertainty, official reports ruled out risks to the public and confirmed that the meteor explosion occurred at high altitude before the object could reach Earth’s surface.
