Marco Méndez, known for his career in Mexican telenovelas, has traded the glamour of television for the land in Uruapan, Michoacán.
The 49-year-old actor left behind more than two decades of artistic life in Mexico City to dedicate himself to growing avocados, beginning a new chapter.
His decision came after the ups and downs he experienced throughout his career, where leading roles did not always arrive as he had expected.
Today, Méndez acknowledges that agriculture has been a fundamental support whenever acting opportunities became uncertain.
From the Set to the Fields: A Different Life for Marco Méndez

“It has been very difficult, a constant up and down,” the actor admitted about his change of life away from television studios. During the pandemic, he decided to step away from filming sets and focus on caring for his avocado orchard in his hometown.
“It has helped me a lot. You have to diversify so that downturns don’t hit you so hard,” he explained about his move into farming. Marco Méndez shared that his family has traditionally been connected to the countryside, which made it easier for him to adapt to agricultural work.

He also said that he deeply enjoys rural life and interacting with animals, recalling that it is something he “grew up with and carries in his blood.” This lifestyle allowed him to move away from the stress of the capital and find peace in his community.
“It’s very different from the entertainment world… now I’ve moved back to live in my hometown,” he said while comparing the two worlds. Despite being away from the spotlight, it does not mean Marco Méndez has completely left acting behind, as he remains open to new opportunities.
Why Did Marco Méndez’s Television Career Slow Down?
Some speculation suggests that his premature gray hair, which began appearing when he was only 18, limited his chances for leading roles in telenovelas. Although he dyed it during the early stages of his career, over time he decided to leave it natural, embracing a more mature image.
This change, while authentic, may have influenced the decline in youthful leading roles. At the end of last year, he completed a series for Argos that will soon premiere on the streaming platform ViX.
With humor and sincerity, Marco Méndez sent a message to producers:
“Here I am, available whenever you want.”
He also recalled his years working on different productions and highlighted his experience collaborating with various figures in the entertainment industry.
In addition to his professional life, Méndez spoke about his personal and emotional life during this return to his roots.
Personal Life and New Challenges
In the past, he had a three-year relationship with actress Ariadne Díaz. Today, he enjoys a 13-year relationship with someone outside the entertainment industry, about whom he preferred not to share many details.
“I still have the dream of having children… if it happens, great; if not, that’s okay too,” he said calmly.
The actor is also participating in the stage production Noches de danzón, a project that has presented new artistic challenges.
“It’s something I had never done before… it’s very difficult,” he confessed about the theatrical experience.
Although his path has taken unexpected turns, the journey of Marco Méndez as an avocado farmer shows that reinventing oneself can be as challenging as it is rewarding, according to TV y Notas.
