Eréndira Ibarra and the Venezuela Earthquake Victims

Grief has struck close to home for Eréndira Ibarra. In an emotional interview with De Primera Mano on Imagen TV, the acclaimed Mexican actress, known internationally for her role in Matrix Resurrections, revealed that members of her family are among the Venezuela earthquake victims following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, 2026. Fighting back tears, the actress and activist shared the pain her family is enduring.

Ibarra made it clear that the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela is deeply personal.

«My heart is a little broken because of what’s happening in Venezuela.»

«My family is Venezuelan, my husband is Venezuelan, and my heart is there,» she said during the television interview, highlighting the anguish experienced by thousands of families with loved ones in the disaster zone.

A heartbreaking family loss: Venezuela Earthquake Victims

The most emotional moment of the interview came when Eréndira Ibarra confirmed the death of a close family member. With a trembling voice, she revealed that her husband’s first cousin died along with his entire family in the disaster.

«My husband’s cousin passed away with his whole family, so there is a great deal of pain in my home,» the actress said, reflecting the grief that now surrounds her family and prompting an outpouring of support on social media.

Their loss comes as emergency responders, international rescue teams, and members of the Mexican Army continue searching through the rubble for survivors.

According to the latest official figures cited in the report, the death toll is approaching 2,000, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in the region’s recent history.

A call to stop politicizing humanitarian aid

Beyond sharing her personal loss, Eréndira Ibarra used the interview on Imagen TV to call attention to the humanitarian crisis affecting Venezuela.

The actress criticized what she described as insufficient international assistance and specifically accused the United States of failing to provide the level of aid she believes was needed following recent political developments involving the detention of Nicolás Maduro.

She stressed that saving lives should take priority over political differences.

«We should stop politicizing and taking sides because no one wants something like this to happen to anyone,» she said, urging people to reflect on urban development and the vulnerability of communities in earthquake-prone areas.

Long-term recovery and solidarity

To help Mexican audiences understand the scale of the destruction, the actress compared the damage in Venezuela to the complete collapse of three Tlatelolco housing complexes in Mexico City.

She said the comparison illustrates the enormous challenge the country faces and warned that rebuilding Venezuela could take many years.

Ibarra also encouraged the Mexican public to donate to relief collection centers and remember the longstanding bond between the two nations.

She recalled that Venezuelans generously supported Mexico after the devastating Mexico City earthquakes in September 2017 and said that now is the time for Mexicans to return that solidarity by helping Venezuela during its greatest time of need.
