During an official visit to Chile, Noem announced that the tsunami alert level had been lowered thanks to the constant assessment by agencies such as FEMA and the Coast Guard.
These agencies were deployed after emergency protocols were activated in the early morning hours.
“We were fully prepared to respond if necessary,” she said.
The official added that she had been in direct contact with President Donald Trump and the governor of Hawaii to coordinate the response.

The DHS National Operations Center immediately activated its resources after the elevated risk detected by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tsunami alert in Hawaii has been lifted:
“a major tsunami is not expected to hit the state.”
However, strong coastal currents could still occur.
California Under Advisory: Monitoring for Dangerous Currents
Despite the overall relief, some areas of the West Coast—including California—remain under advisory.
The NWS in Los Angeles reported that the tsunami was recorded by tide gauges in Arena Cove, Monterey, and Crescent City, the latter under the highest alert level.
Authorities continue to monitor potential residual effects of the phenomenon, particularly on beaches, ports, and marinas.
Officials urged the public to avoid activities in coastal areas while the active advisory remains in place.
Noem added that she has not yet spoken with the governor of California but confirmed that federal security channels are already coordinating with state counterparts to respond to any contingency.
Positive Assessment and Exemplary Deployment
The government emphasized that all recommendations and response plans were implemented immediately.
“Everything the governors requested was carried out,” Noem explained. The Coast Guard was already positioned and placed on tsunami alert within minutes.
The situation is now considered stable, although the official recommendation is to stay informed and follow local instructions.
The alerts are expected to be gradually lifted in the coming hours.
