Telemundo 60 meteorologist Pinky Lilian Pérez moved audiences after deciding to remove her makeup live and publicly reveal that she has vitiligo, a condition that causes loss of pigment in the skin.

The moment took place on the local Telemundo station in San Antonio, Texas, during a segment with Puerto Rican journalist Ariel Rivera Vázquez.

The presenter explained that she had spent years hiding the spots on her skin with makeup to meet on-camera expectations and social pressure.

“Hiding it has weighed on me every single day,” she confessed in front of millions of viewers.

Pérez shared that her need to cover the spots affected her even in daily life, often avoiding commitments when she didn’t have makeup available.

“Every day putting makeup on and hiding it… I don’t want that anymore. I don’t want to carry that anymore,” she said, visibly emotional.

After wiping away the makeup, Pinky Lilian Pérez showed her hands and said she would continue her work on television without hiding her condition.

“This is me when you see me pointing at the chroma. You’re going to see me like this, and well, I’m getting better,” she said with determination.

Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin stop functioning, creating patches that can appear anywhere on the body.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition is neither life-threatening nor contagious, but it can cause insecurity and emotional stress for those who live with it.

An Unpredictable Condition With Many Forms

Vitiligo can begin at any age, though it often develops before age 30 and affects people of all skin tones.

The first areas to show pigment loss are usually the hands, face, and areas around body openings.

Some patients also experience premature graying or loss of color in the mucous membranes of the mouth and nose.

While some treatments may help restore pigment, none can prevent the spread of patches or guarantee they won’t return.

The Telemundo Host Vitiligo Story Opens Conversation

Pinky Lilian Pérez’s brave gesture was met with praise from viewers and social media users, who highlighted the importance of bringing visibility to conditions like vitiligo.

By sharing her story, the meteorologist not only lifted a personal burden but also sent a powerful message about acceptance and emotional health.

The conversation sparked by her revelation promises to help break stigmas and foster greater understanding of this dermatological condition.
