Unfortunately, Alberto Aguilera Valadez, his real name, passed away on August 28, 2016, in Santa Monica, California, USA.
At the time of his death from an acute myocardial infarction, he was 66 years old.
Eight years after Juan Gabriel’s passing, his son Jean Aguilera remembers how he heard the news.
Juan Gabriel’s Passing Was An Unexpected Departure
Until before his death, few knew that Juan Gabriel was the father of five children. For years this ‘secret’ was hidden.
The Divo de Juárez fathered Iván, Joan, Luis Alberto, Juan Jr, and Jean Aguilera.

It was Jean who gave an interview to the program Venga la alegría to talk about one of the saddest moments of his life.
Among the things he shared was that his father was very affectionate with him and his siblings.
«My mom called me and she was the one who gave me the news. I was the closest of all, I was living in California,» said Jean Aguilera.
The youngest son of Juan Gabriel shared that his father’s death was a nightmare he tries to forget.
«It was something that was not real for me what was happening and I had to gather strength,» he added.
On the other hand, the young man mentioned that the singer-songwriter was a great dad.
«He was very playful and very cuddly. He took us everywhere and he enjoyed that,» confessed Jean Aguilera.
In another part of this interview, he commented that he loved watching old movies and the Pink Panther cartoon.
He assured that he has a very good relationship with his older brother Iván Aguilera, who is in charge of managing ‘Juanga’s’ legacy.
