According to Fox 5 Atlanta, TikTok influencer Marlena Vélez, a 23-year-old mother from Florida with more than 528,000 followers, was arrested on October 12 after attempting to hide from police inside a parked SUV, authorities in Cape Coral confirmed.
Police stated that Vélez had been evading capture for several weeks due to a probation violation and a fleeing charge stemming from a failed arrest attempt during a traffic stop in September.
Officers identified a gray 2022 Kia Sorento linked to the influencer that afternoon. Upon approaching the vehicle, they spotted her in the passenger seat.
“When officers shined their flashlight, Vélez was seen lying on the floor of the backseat, trying to hide,” the police department said in an official statement after her arrest.

Marlena Vélez was arrested along with the vehicle’s driver. Both were taken to the Lee County Jail, where she remains held without bond.
Authorities stated she faces two counts of probation violation and one count of fleeing and eluding police, offenses that could further complicate her legal situation.
The arrest followed an incident on September 29, when an officer recognized Vélez driving in a residential neighborhood.
When he tried to stop her, the influencer sped away, forcing the officer to halt the pursuit for safety reasons.
TikTok influencer’s criminal background

Vélez’s legal troubles are not new.
Cape Coral police reported that the influencer began her criminal record nearly a year ago when she was accused of using fake barcodes to obtain discounted items illegally at a local Target store.
The crime was uncovered thanks to security footage and her own TikTok videos, where Vélez showcased her purchases — unaware that her content matched the store’s theft records.
Investigators confirmed her identity after receiving social media tips and comparing images from her Instagram and TikTok accounts to surveillance videos from the store.
Soon after, Vélez was arrested again for a second attempted theft at the same Target, repeating the same modus operandi that led to her first charges.
Influencer Marlena Velez kept posting despite accusations
Despite the criminal allegations, Vélez continued uploading videos to her @marlenavelezz account, where she shares beauty routines, fashion tips, and family life content.
Her profile has over 11.8 million likes, and her “get ready with me” videos and daily vlogs remain popular among followers.
Ironically, the same type of videos that brought her fame also helped police identify her during previous theft investigations — showing how her online exposure ultimately contributed to her capture.
The influencer has not made any public statements since her arrest, and her TikTok account remains active but has not posted new videos since early October.
Marlena Velez to appear in Florida court
Under Florida law, authorities can detain individuals without bail if they violate probation — particularly in cases involving prior flight or repeat offenses.
Vélez’s original charges stem from petty thefts valued under $750. However, her repeated violations and attempts to evade justice could lead to a harsher sentence.
She is expected to appear before the Lee County Court later this month, where a judge will evaluate her case and determine whether she will remain in custody or qualify for alternative measures.
Meanwhile, her case has gone viral on social media, where thousands of users express both criticism and disbelief toward the young woman once known as a lifestyle and family influencer — now facing her second arrest for theft and evading police.
