- Brother killed in Florida shooting
- Mother dies in Honduras
- Asks for help with repatriation
Miguel Romero is going through one of the most painful moments of his life after losing his brother in a shooting in Florida and, the following day, his mother in Honduras.
In the span of two days, he says he lost two of the most important people in his life.
Now he is asking for financial support to repatriate his brother’s body and give him burial in his home country.
Shooting in Fort Pierce Leaves One Dead
According to WPBF, Mario José Romero Alonzo, 29, was killed early Monday morning inside a house in St. Lucie County, Florida.
According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect is Antony Ramos, 17, who faces a murder charge.
Sheriff Richard Del Toro reported that deputies responded around 12:45 a.m. to the 3200 block of Orleander Avenue after receiving a call about a shooting.
According to authorities, Mario José Romero Alonzo was not the intended victim.
“He was there looking for his brother basically to settle a matter over a job where he had been fired, and when he couldn’t find him or reach him, he basically pointed the gun at our victim,” Del Toro said.
Investigators determined that Ramos fled the scene on foot.
Hours later, around 8:30 a.m., Ramos was arrested along with his cousin, Florencio Martínez Ramos, 20, who faces a charge of complicity.

Both were arrested without incident after detectives stopped a pickup truck in Port St. Lucie.
The sheriff described the case as “very sad, very sad and concerning.”
A neighbor, Tousssaint Vosant, expressed his shock over what happened.
“I don’t know how it happened, but it happened. It’s very sad,” he said.
“I’ve been living here about 20 years and I had never seen anything like this.”
Double Tragedy in Two Days

Miguel Romero reported that his brother was killed on February 16 in Fort Pierce.
The following day, February 17, his mother died in Honduras.
“In the span of two days I lost two of the most important people in my life,” he wrote in his public message.
He noted that he is currently alone in the United States.
He says he does not have the financial resources to cover funeral expenses or the costs of repatriation.
Asking for Repatriation Support

Through a GoFundMe campaign, Miguel Romero is requesting repatriation support to send his brother’s body to Honduras.
He explained that the family wishes to give Mario José Romero Alonzo a Christian burial and say goodbye as he deserves.
He stated that repatriation costs are high and that he does not have the financial ability to cover them.
“That’s why, with much humility and my heart in my hands, I am asking for your support,” he wrote.
He added that any donation, no matter how small, will be of great help.
He also asked that those who cannot contribute financially share the campaign so it can reach more people.
“Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can provide in this very painful moment,” he concluded.
