The United States government has announced a strong measure against South Sudan.
The State Department revealed on Saturday that it will revoke all existing visas held by South Sudanese citizens.
“It’s time for the transitional government of South Sudan to stop taking advantage of the U.S.,” stated Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a brief statement.
“Enforcing our nation’s immigration laws is vital to national and public security,” he added.

In addition, the issuance of new visas for passport holders from that country will be suspended.
This measure is intended to protect national security, according to Secretary Rubio.
The official emphasized that all countries must accept the return of their nationals who are expelled from other nations.
However, the government of South Sudan has not fully respected this obligation.
For that reason, the State Department decided to act in order to pressure the African nation.
Rubio stated that the policy could be revised if South Sudan fully cooperates with deportation efforts.
“The department will be ready to review these measures,” affirmed the U.S. Secretary of State.
This move comes amid broader immigration tensions under the Republican administration.
Are Other Countries Affected?
In March, The New York Times reported that Donald Trump’s administration was considering restrictions on 43 countries.
Among those mentioned were Cuba, Venezuela, and others with records of refusing to accept deported nationals.
That draft also included an “orange list” of countries facing partial restrictions, according to EFE.
These included Belarus, Russia, Haiti, Pakistan, and South Sudan, among others.
Such restrictions do not constitute a total ban, but they do limit the ability of travelers to enter the United States.
The new measure against South Sudan confirms that Washington is seeking to reinforce its hardline immigration stance.
According to the State Department, only full cooperation can reverse these sanctions.
