U.S. Escalates Military Offensive in Iraq Alongside Saudi Arabia Following Wave of Iran-Linked Drone Attacks

The United States and Saudi Arabia launched a new joint military operation against positions held by Iran-aligned armed groups in eastern Iraq, marking another escalation in Middle East tensions.

The operation was confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which said the US airstrikes in Iraq were carried out in response to a series of recent attacks targeting American troops and Saudi energy infrastructure.

According to official information, more than 30 drone attacks attributed to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were recorded over the past 72 hours, prompting the two allies to carry out a coordinated military response.

The operation marks another chapter in the growing confrontation between Washington and Tehran-backed militias at a time when regional stability is once again under increasing pressure.

Airstrikes Targeted Logistics Centers and Weapons Depots

CENTCOM said the precision strikes targeted facilities used to store weapons and provide logistical support to groups designated as terrorist organizations by the United States.

According to the military command, the targeted sites were being used to support operations against US forces deployed in the region and against Saudi Arabia’s strategic interests.

Following the offensive, CENTCOM warned Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the organizations it supports to halt their attacks or face additional military action.

Washington said its response is intended to protect US military personnel and allied forces amid the recent increase in attacks.

Regional Tensions Rise After New Military Incidents

The operation came shortly after the United States said it had thwarted an attempted launch of several ballistic missiles from Iranian territory targeting U.S. troops in the Middle East.

U.S. officials described the incident as the first attempt of its kind since President Donald Trump stated that Washington and Tehran were engaged in talks.

CENTCOM also noted that between February and April it documented more than 600 attempted attacks attributed to Iran-backed militias targeting American citizens, troops, and facilities in Iraq.

Those incidents underscore the deteriorating security situation in the region and the intensifying indirect conflict between the two sides.

Conflict Keeps Pressure High Across the Middle East

The latest US airstrikes in Iraq come just days after another round of American strikes against the Islamic Republic, continuing a prolonged series of attacks following the collapse of a ceasefire reached in June.

At the same time, the United States said it continues to enforce maritime security measures aimed at restricting the movement of resources linked to the regional conflict.

According to CENTCOM, since the naval operation began, more than 140 vessels have been redirected, nine ships that ignored military orders have been disabled, and more than 50 humanitarian aid vessels have been allowed to pass.

As Washington and Tehran continue exchanging warnings, the possibility of further military confrontations remains a major concern for Western allies and countries across the Middle East, according to EFE and Euronews.
