Sergio Mayer supports Alejandra Jaramillo. The controversial departure of Ecuadorian television host Alejandra Jaramillo from Univision’s entertainment program ¡Siéntese quien pueda! continues to generate strong reactions across the entertainment industry.
This time, it was renowned Mexican actor and former politician Sergio Mayer who publicly voiced his full support for Jaramillo. He praised her professionalism while sharply criticizing the actions taken by the show’s production following the controversy over her celebration after Mexico’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sergio Mayer emphasized that celebrating the defeat or elimination of any national team during a sporting event is a natural expression of passion and freedom of speech and should not automatically be interpreted as an insult or a sign of disrespect toward a country.
He encouraged both audiences and television executives to understand the emotional nature of sports and avoid confusing personal sporting preferences with professional responsibilities.
«Alejandra Jaramillo is the one who celebrated because Mexico was eliminated from the World Cup, right? I was with her when I appeared on the show. Alejandra… I like her very much, and she’s from… I can’t remember which country, I’m sorry, but she has every right to express herself, especially when it comes to the passion of sports. If she celebrated because Mexico was eliminated, why should we be offended? Why should we get upset? Some people support Mexico, others don’t, and I think it’s very concerning that she was removed from the program simply because she expressed happiness over Mexico’s elimination.»
He continued:
«I don’t think that’s right because she doesn’t have to support Mexico, and we shouldn’t criticize her for celebrating. That’s my opinion, and I truly love Mexico, but we need to be tolerant and respectful.»
Criticism of the Production’s Handling of Her Private Content
Sergio Mayer also argued that the show’s production made a serious mistake by using footage that Jaramillo had recorded in the privacy of her own home and presenting it on national television without proper context, which he believes damaged her public image.
He maintained that the private lives of television personalities should remain private and should not be used as material to create controversy.
«What she did in the privacy of her home should not have been used on television. If she had made those comments during the program or on her social media, that would be different, but this situation seems very delicate to me.»
