The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, issued a health alert related to several matcha drinks distributed by the company SKS Copack.

Authorities warned of a possible risk of contamination with the Salmonella bacteria.

According to El Heraldo de México, the recall involves specialty drinks made with powdered skim milk used as an ingredient in some products.

Salmonella can cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections in children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

Health authorities urged consumers to avoid consuming the affected products while investigations continue.

According to the official statement, the recall began after one of the suppliers reported positive Salmonella results in a specific batch of powdered skim milk.

The ingredient was used in some specialty drinks distributed by the company.

After learning of the results, SKS Copack immediately decided to suspend distribution of the potentially affected products.

The company also quarantined the rest of the ingredient linked to the health alert.

U.S. authorities reported that, so far, there are no confirmed illnesses linked to this recall.

However, the FDA asked consumers to carefully check the lot codes printed on the packages.

The company said it is cooperating with health authorities while investigations continue.

SKS Copack said the affected products can be identified by the lot codes printed on the back of the packages.

Among the items included in the matcha drink recall is Angel Specialty Products Matcha Green Tea 4/3#.

The best-by date marked on that product is August 2027.

The recalled products were distributed in several U.S. states.

According to the company, the drinks were sold through coffee shops, restaurants, and direct delivery services.

Among the states where they were distributed are California, Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Washington, Nevada, and Virginia.

They were also shipped to Connecticut and other regions of the country.

People who purchased products included in the alert were urged to return them to the place where they bought them.

The company said consumers will be able to receive a full refund.

In addition, SKS Copack opened a phone line to answer questions related to the health recall.

FDA Warns About Risks Linked to Salmonella

The FDA reminded consumers that Salmonella bacteria can cause gastrointestinal infections and other health complications.

The most common symptoms associated with infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Specialists said some infections can become more severe and spread to the bloodstream.

In those cases, complications may include arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.

Health authorities recommended avoiding consumption of any product connected to the alert while investigations continue.

The FDA also asked consumers to carefully review the lot codes of drinks purchased recently.

The matcha drink recall remains active while authorities and the company determine the full scope of the possible health issue.
