- Bet on Independent Journalism
- Never Accepted Television Censorship
Renowned journalist Jorge Ramos broke his silence after leaving Univision in 2024 and spoke out about true freedom of expression in Hispanic television.
Ramos, who recently won a historic Emmy Award for his independent program Así veo las cosas, said that throughout his career in the United States, he never allowed a company to control his editorial line.
Jorge Ramos’ Show of Authority Against the Major Networks

When asked exclusively what it felt like to beat programs from his former television home, such as Noticiero Univisión and Al Rojo Vivo, Ramos made clear that the media landscape has changed irreversibly. “The numbers are on our side,” he said firmly, showing that digital platforms now compete head-to-head with the giants of the traditional industry.
The victory has historic significance. His program, Jorge Ramos: Así Veo Las Cosas, won the award for Best Spanish-Language News Program, officially becoming the first independent Spanish-language news video podcast to receive the industry’s highest recognition in this category. The project was developed under Tres Alebrijes, the independent digital production company founded by Ramos alongside experienced industry executives María Martínez-Guzmán and Bilai Joa Silar, with key support from the Marguerite Casey Foundation and YouTube.
Massive Audience and the End of Monopolies

The shift toward digital spaces has been proven by powerful metrics that bury the golden era of broadcast television. In March 2026 alone, the show generated an impressive 101 million accumulated views across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, while its main YouTube channel recorded 4.85 million monthly unique users during that same period.
Regarding the overwhelming success of this digital debut, the journalist did not hesitate to credit the loyalty of the Hispanic community: “This Emmy belongs to our audience. They followed us to our new home, and from here we can do what we have always believed in: offer independent, direct, and uncompromising journalism. This award is a reaffirmation of the commitment we made to our community when we began this project, and proof that independent journalism can compete with traditional media and win.”
No Room for Televisa Censorship

Addressing old doubts dating back to 2012, when Televisa acquired shares in Univision, the journalist was categorical in saying that corporate leadership never managed to bend his judgment. “I am lucky that throughout my time in the United States I have been able to be a completely free journalist and do whatever I wanted,” he stated directly.
He also firmly ruled out having considered a move to other traditional networks such as Telemundo, because his focus is clearly planted in the digital ecosystem: “Nobody ever told me, Alonso, what to say or what not to say, and I would never have accepted it… once I left television, it was very clear to me that the future was somewhere else, not on television.”
Jorge Ramos concluded by saying that credibility now belongs to the individual and not to institutions, consolidating his commitment to independent journalism without corporate ties.
