The Man’s Cell Phone Was Key to the Investigation

Jonathan Nuno Mijangos called 911 on March 10, 2021, to report that his wife, Jasmin Cigarroa, 24, was missing.
Jasmin was a diligent student pursuing a Master’s degree in Accounting, seeking a better future for herself and her family.
The Hispanic man claimed his wife left home with a friend but never returned. The friend confirmed that Jasmin never showed up for their meeting.
DPD officers began tracking the cell phones of both Jasmin and Nuno Mijangos to verify the truth of his story.
Police Tracked the Killer’s Movements

Based on this, DPD determined that Jonathan Nuno Mijangos had been in a rural area at East 26th Avenue and Powhaton Road in Colorado.
Investigators searched the couple’s home and found Jasmin’s cell phone, car keys, and handbag.
Despite the evidence, Mijangos maintained that his wife had gone out with friends. The friends confirmed that she never arrived.
Tracking the GPS of Jasmin’s phone revealed that she had returned home after school.
Her Body Was Found Among the Trees in a Forest

On March 18, 2021, hikers in Adams County discovered the remains of a woman by a trail.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) responded to the scene and identified the body as Jasmin Cigarroa.
The ACSO notified DPD’s Homicide Division, and detectives arrived at the wooded area to gather details after the grim discovery.
Nuno Mijangos was arrested due to inconsistencies in his statements and the evidence from his cell phone placing him in the rural area.
