At 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023, emergency services received a call reporting a shooting incident.

Patrol officers immediately responded to 5600 Pine Park Drive in the Pine Village North neighborhood, located in the northeast of the Houston metropolitan area.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered a Hispanic woman in a warehouse area, critically injured from at least ten gunshot wounds.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) dispatched paramedics to the location to provide immediate medical attention and transport the injured woman to a hospital.

When the woman arrived at the emergency room of a nearby hospital, the doctors were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead.

Detectives from the HCSO Homicide Division arrived at the scene of the brutal shooting, and it was during their investigation that they learned of her estranged husband, Ever Navarrete.

In the initial stages of their inquiry, the detectives discovered that the victim, aged 48, had only been separated from her husband for a few weeks and was not yet divorced.

Family and friends of the woman revealed that they had assisted her in starting a new life away from Ever Navarrete due to his history of abuse.

For her safety, the woman never disclosed her new address to Ever Navarrete, nor did she reveal her plans for earning a living or the individuals assisting her.

In a manner that remains unclear, Ever Navarrete, who is now a fugitive, somehow learned of his wife’s new residence and allegedly tracked her down.

When the woman was in the warehouse area, Navarrete surprised her and discharged all the rounds from his firearm. The police recovered 14 shell casings at the scene.

The HCSO is urging the community to come forward with any information regarding Ever Navarrete’s whereabouts. Please contact them at 713.274.9100 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713.222.8477.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), there is a concerning trend of violence against women in the United States.

The NCADV reports that every minute, 20 people fall victim to partner violence in some form, including cases like the tragic murder of Ever Navarrete’s wife.

In the United States, one in four women and one in nine men endure ongoing violent abuse, sometimes leading to tragic outcomes.

Women between the ages of 18 and 24, often in their first serious relationships, are particularly vulnerable and tend to report the highest number of cases.
