What you may not know about Ernesto Gómez Cruz

Originally from the state of Veracruz, Mexico, Ernesto Gómez Cruz was born on November 7, 1933.

Thanks to a scholarship, he studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City.

Originally, he wanted to be a singer, but his shyness — in addition to his lack of training — prevented him from achieving this dream.

He is in second place among Mexican actors with the most nominations and Ariel awards. The first is Damián Alcázar, with whom he starred in El Infierno.

‘I’ve Been Feeling Very Bad’

In 2019, Ernesto Gómez Cruz gave a revealing interview to Ventaneando.

The actor, who was present at the Ariel Awards ceremony, confessed that he had been feeling very poorly and that he was ill.

«These would be my last appearances, I think, without being too negative. I’ve already enjoyed these events,» he said.

Without revealing more about his illness, he said that he had already enjoyed his time and that all that was left was to wait for «his time.»

His last social media post

Through his official Instagram account, Ernesto Gómez Cruz shared what would be his last post just a few days ago.

It is a photograph in which he appears alongside actress, singer and producer Julissa, who was his co-star in the film Los Caifanes.

Despite smiling, the actor does not appear to be in the best shape.

Moreover, he is seated in a wheelchair from the facilities of the National Association of Actors.

What do we know about the death of Ernesto Gómez Cruz?

So far, neither ANDA nor the family of Ernesto Gómez Cruz have revealed the cause of his death.

However, it is believed that the actor died as a consequence of Alzheimer’s disease, which he had been suffering from for some time.

«Every week I would tell him what was going to happen. There were times when he remembered, sometimes he didn’t,» said Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez in an interview.

The actress, who starred in the film ¡Qué viva México!, also said that Cruz  was always very enthusiastic and wanted to return to acting.

«I’m Worried He Might Die of Sadness»

According to Debate, in his final years, Ernesto Gómez Cruz couldn’t work and lived alone.

In an interview with Sale el Sol, his son Raymundo said that his father’s mind was declining.

«He’s upset, he’s looking for what he likes, work, I’m worried that he might die of sadness, he’s fading away like a candle,» he said.

On the actor’s social media, it was announced that a tribute will be held for him at Casa Prim in Mexico City.
