A controversy involving Cazzu mocking Mexico has once again captured attention, proving that the internet rarely forgets.

In recent hours, Argentine singer Cazzu has become the target of intense online criticism after a controversial video from 2022 resurfaced.

The clip quickly climbed to the top of the trending topics on X (formerly Twitter), generating thousands of reactions and sparking an unexpected debate that has also drawn Ángela Aguilar into the conversation.

To understand why the video has reignited controversy, it is necessary to go back to late November 2022.

At the time, the singer of «Nada» was performing in Mexico City as one of the featured artists at the Flow Fest urban music festival.

Her appearance coincided with the same weekend that Mexico’s national soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, during the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to videos that first went viral on TikTok, Cazzu noticed the audience seemed less energetic than expected. Trying to interact with the crowd, she asked: «Are you sad because you lost?» The reaction was immediate. Many attendees responded with loud boos, jeers, and chants expressing their displeasure.

Attempts to calm the crowd fell short

After realizing her comment had backfired and that the atmosphere had become increasingly hostile, the rapper tried to defuse the situation by appealing to the crowd’s national pride.

«Anyone who doesn’t love Mexico’s national team, don’t jump. Proud Mexicans, let’s jump!» she shouted from the stage in an attempt to win the audience back and regain control of the concert.

However, the mood did not improve. Instead of following her lead, the crowd responded by chanting local soccer cheers before she continued with her song «Toda.»

Several days later, during a second performance in the Mexican state of Puebla, Cazzu publicly apologized in an effort to smooth over tensions with the country of her then-boyfriend, Christian Nodal.

Speaking from the stage, she said she had never intended to offend the Mexican audience. She added that it also broke her heart when people spoke negatively about her, expressing her hope of returning the public’s affection through her music.

From an old controversy to a new trend on X

Although the incident occurred nearly four years ago and Cazzu apologized at the time, the video has recently been revived by users on X.

Its widespread circulation has generated renewed criticism, with many reminding the Argentine artist of the importance of Mexican audiences to the careers of international performers.

The discussion has also taken an unexpected turn, as hundreds of users have cited the old incident while defending Ángela Aguilar.

Across social media, many commenters argue that «time has put everything in its place,» while others claim the resurfaced video explains why some members of the public have criticized Cazzu in recent years. The debate—fueled by memes, soccer rivalries, and entertainment industry drama—continues to generate thousands of views and interactions online.
