- Visas to Be Canceled This Month
- Trump’s Immigration Policies Tighten
- Stricter Control Over Applicants
The United States has intensified its immigration policies, and starting this month, some visas could be unexpectedly canceled.
The reelection of Donald Trump in November 2024 has reignited debates over stricter immigration restrictions and changes in visa issuance procedures.
In his first days back in office, the president signed executive orders to toughen border policies and implement tighter control over visa applicants.
One such order, titled «Protection of the United States Against Foreign Terrorists and Other Threats to National and Public Security,» establishes stricter criteria for granting visas.
Visas Subject to Cancellation
The order does not explicitly mention Mexico.
But it is expected that Mexican citizens will face more rigorous evaluation processes.

So far, no official list of specific visas at risk has been released, but the possibility of losing valid visas remains a significant concern.
U.S. immigration law allows for the revocation of any visa if the holder fails to comply with regulations established by the Department of State.
Authorities have identified several reasons that could lead to visa revocation, requiring affected individuals to restart the application process:
Overstaying: Remaining in the U.S. beyond the authorized time frame is considered a violation of immigration status.
Providing False Information: Lying to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, either during entry or during the visa application process, can result in cancellation.
Misusing SENTRI Lanes: Using the expedited entry lane for trusted travelers without authorization can lead to visa revocation.
Criminal Activity: Committing any crime on U.S. soil results in immediate visa cancellation, regardless of visa type.
Failing to Report a Lost Visa: Not notifying authorities about a lost visa is a serious offense.
This is because it could enable unauthorized use by third parties.
Carrying Prohibited Items: The Mexican government has warned that bringing restricted items into the U.S., such as weapons, explosives, or drugs, could lead to cancellation.
False Claims of Citizenship: Declaring oneself a U.S. citizen falsely can lead to severe immigration penalties.
Visa Fraud: Lending a visa to another person for unauthorized border crossing attempts results in immediate revocation and potential legal action.
Unauthorized Work: Using a tourist visa for employment or commercial resale of goods can lead to cancellation.
These new immigration changes have caused significant concern among Mexican travelers holding U.S. visas.
Visa holders are advised to strictly adhere to all regulations to avoid jeopardizing their immigration status.
A tougher stance on visa issuance and renewals is anticipated under the Trump administration.
These stricter measures could also strain U.S.-Mexico bilateral relations.
Particularly in economic sectors that depend heavily on the flow of Mexican visitors and workers, according to La Silla Rota.
