Texas reinforces border with 400 soldiers against migratory measures from Trump

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the deployment of 400 additional soldiers to the border with Mexico, reinforcing Operation Lone Star.
This measure adds to the arrival of 1,500 troops deployed by President Donald Trump in his first week in office.
Abbott explained that the Texas Tactical Border Force will be sent to the Rio Grande Valley to collaborate with the U.S. Border Patrol.
«Departing from military bases in Fort Worth and Houston this morning, the Texas Tactical Border Force will increase by 400 the number of additional soldiers, as well as C-130 and Chinook helicopters,» detailed the Texas government in a statement.

Thus, the DEPLOYMENT of 400 National Guard soldiers with the Texas Tactical Border Force took place this morning to assist the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office in the Rio Grande Valley, at the border between the United States and Mexico.

This force, created in 2023, is part of Texas’ strategy to curb illegal migration and drug trafficking.
According to state data, the operation has led to the detention of more than 530,000 migrants and the seizure of 622 million doses of fentanyl.

Trump, for his part, signed an executive order on January 22 declaring a national emergency at the border, granting authorities the power to repel and deport illegal migrants.
The new government has also implemented additional asylum restrictions, limiting the chances of staying in the United States, according to El Financiero.
In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced the México te abraza (Mexico Embraces You) program, offering social security, scholarships, and pensions to deportees.
Experts warn that this expense was not considered in the 2025 Economic Package, which could put pressure on Mexico’s public finances.
