At least six people were killed and 24 people are hospitalized after a shooting on Monday during a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, according to the latest update from the authorities.
Previously, the City Council reported in a statement that there were five dead and 12 injured, but the number has increased. Police are still looking for the suspect in the shooting, according to authorities who asked residents to seek shelter because there is still danger.
An active situation after parade shooting

Police have recovered evidence that the suspect had a firearm, according to the statement. The shooting came about 10 minutes after the parade began and sent dozens of people running, scared by the sound of gunfire, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Police, at a news conference, described the suspect as a white male, 18 to 20 years old, with long dark hair. As of this writing, the suspect has not been identified and is considered armed and dangerous. The situation was still active around 2 p.m. Atlanta time.
Police say the shooter fired from a rooftop

Her five-year-old son rode his bicycle decorated with red and blue ribbons. He and other children in the group held small American flags. The municipal authorities indicated on their website that the festivities were to include a parade of bicycles and pets for children.
