The execution of Saleh Mohammadi, a 19-year-old wrestler, has sparked mixed reactions after he was convicted for his alleged involvement in violent incidents during protests in Qom.
Authorities confirmed that the young athlete was executed on March 19 along with two other defendants in the same city.
According to information released by Mizan News Agency, the three men were found guilty of murder and of carrying out “operational actions in favor of Israel and the United States.”
The case has generated debate both domestically and internationally, particularly due to the athlete’s age and his recognition in the wrestling community, fueling the Iran execution young wrestler controversy.

According to Mizan, the events leading to the convictions occurred on January 8.
Authorities stated that Saleh Mohammadi and the other accused attacked two security agents with bladed weapons at different locations in Qom, resulting in their deaths.

“The three convicted individuals were hanged in the city of Qom after being found guilty of murder,” the judicial agency reported.
Additionally, Mehdi Ghasemi and Saeid Davudi were also sentenced for the crime of “moharebeh,” which translates as “enmity against God.”

The term “moharebeh” is used in Iran’s judicial system to punish crimes considered severe offenses against Islam, public security, or acts linked to espionage.
Authorities stated that all three detainees confessed during various stages of the judicial process.
According to the official report, the arrests were carried out as part of security and intelligence operations.
The final sentence was the death penalty, which was carried out just days after the conclusion of the proceedings, intensifying the controversy over the execution of the young wrestler in Iran.

During his short career, he won several medals, including a bronze at the Saytev Cup while representing Iran in Russia.
He was last seen free on January 15, when his arrest was reported, according to El Heraldo de México.
