According to Univision, from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Bertha Alfaro holds a photograph of her son, Miguel Ángel García, and prays for two miracles.
The first: that her son wakes up from the coma after being shot four times in Dallas.
The second: that she be allowed to return to the United States with a visa to see him in the hospital.
Her plea comes after an armed attack outside an ICE processing center that left one immigrant dead and two others wounded.
The Armed Attack in Dallas ICE Center

On Wednesday, September 24, a gunman opened fire on vans transporting immigrants outside the ICE processing center in Dallas.
Security footage shows detainees trying to escape, though shackles on their hands and feet prevented them from running.
Meanwhile, armed agents managed to move quickly and take cover.
The scene raised serious questions about security and the treatment of immigrants in custody.

“Because if they saw the shooting begin, why didn’t they do something?” asked Bertha Alfaro.
“Because they chain you when they detain you. They tie your hands, they tie your feet—how are you supposed to run?” she added, visibly distressed.
Her son Miguel Ángel García, 32, was struck in the neck, stomach, leg, and back.
He is now in a coma at Parkland Hospital, under ICE custody.

Originally from Mexico, Miguel Ángel García had lived in Arlington, Texas, for more than 20 years.
A painter by trade, he was the main financial support for his family and father of four children, with a fifth on the way.
His wife, Stephany Gauffeny, visits the hospital every day despite being close to giving birth.
Inside the emergency room, Miguel Ángel remains handcuffed as he fights for his life.
Other Injured and Deceased Immigrants
Bertha Alfaro was deported two months ago after living for a time in North Texas.
From her home in San Luis Potosí, she now begs U.S. authorities to grant her a humanitarian visa.
The Department of Homeland Security released the identities of the three immigrants attacked outside the ICE center.
In addition to Miguel Ángel García, another immigrant, José Andrés Bordones Molina from Venezuela, was wounded, while Norlan Guzmán Fuentes from El Salvador was killed.
The ICE Dallas shooting victim case has put a human face on the tragedy, sparking calls for accountability and compassion toward immigrant families.
