  • Chiky Bombom issues a public apology.
  • She spread rumors about layoffs at Telemundo.
  • She acknowledged that she has no internal information.

Chiky Bombom is apologizing. Chiky Bombom is at the center of controversy after her temporary one-week suspension from Telemundo was confirmed, following her public apology for assuring that the network was preparing to lay off hundreds of employees.

According to Mandy Fridmann, the co-host of Hoy Día and En Casa con Telemundo issued a recorded message a day before her suspension took effect, after holding various meetings with human resources, company lawyers, and executives.

The origin of the controversy dates back to a live broadcast on TikTok with content creator Jesús Cáseres, which was conducted from her home in an inappropriate state. When questioned about the situation of the company, the Dominican host said, laughing:

“Telemundo is now preparing to fire 500 people… I’ll probably be leaving, they’re currently firing people.” According to what she revealed, she had taken this version from a broadcast by journalist Javier Ceriani, which her mother had mentioned to her, incorrectly linking it to layoffs that actually corresponded to temporary personnel hired only for the pre, during, and post FIFA World Cup 2026 period.

Chiky Bombom Apologizes: The Exact Words of the Official Apology

Visibly nervous, with agitated breathing, and reading a statement that had previously been approved by the network’s legal team, Lissette Eduardo faced her audience to formally retract her statements:

“Hello, today I want to clarify an inappropriate comment I made last week on social media during a live broadcast about supposed layoffs at Telemundo. I want to make it clear that as a presenter for the network, I don’t have access to that type of internal information, so I recognize that I made a mistake, I regret having spread this type of rumor, I take full responsibility for my actions, and I apologize to anyone who may have been affected by my actions, especially at a time when the network is having so much success,” she expressed before the program continued its usual course.

The Live Broadcast Where She Spread the Rumor

During the live broadcast on TikTok with content creator Jesús Cáseres, the tone of the conversation intensified when Cáseres tried to delve deeper into the company’s internal movements.

In response, the host asked him to stop the questioning to avoid compromising her current job and economic stability: “Jesús, you’re not going to pay my mortgage. I live in a mansion. If you want to stay connected with me, don’t ask me uncomfortable questions”.

Similarly, the network’s collaborator insisted on setting clear boundaries to protect her job position within the company: “If you want to be my friend and want to vibe well with Bombom, don’t put me between a rock and a hard place… Are you my friend or my enemy? Make it clear”.

After the rapid spread of her statements and the intense debate generated on digital platforms, Chiky Bombom decided to backtrack and published a message to rectify the information she had spread.

The host formally acknowledged that she had made a mistake by speculating about the company’s internal decisions without having verifiable data: “I want to make it clear that as a presenter for the network, I don’t have access to that type of internal information, so I recognize that I made a mistake”.

Finally, the public figure regretted having fueled unfounded versions that quickly escalated on the internet and took full responsibility for her actions before her audience and the company:

“I regret having spread this type of rumor,” she added, concluding by expressing that “I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to anyone who may have been affected by my actions”.

Divided Reactions to Chiky Bombom’s Apology: This Is How People Responded on Social Media

The host’s slip-up and subsequent retraction sparked a flood of comments on the internet, where users were sharply divided between those who gave her their unconditional support and those who questioned her professionalism.

Support and solidarity: Numerous followers and colleagues came to her defense under the slogan that «to err is human». Messages like the one from Aleska Génesis stood out: «To err is human and we’re with you… Come back, Telemundo isn’t the same without you», while others applauded her courage in facing the situation.

On the other hand, a large part of the audience harshly criticized the lightness with which certain digital talents handle information on traditional television.

Several internet users pointed out that the apology was due to external pressures from the company: «It’s clear that they forced her» or «That’s what happens when they give a camera to anyone who goes viral on TikTok», were some of the most repeated positions that questioned the lack of journalistic ethics and prudence in live broadcasts.
