Javier «Chicharito» Hernández will return to professional soccer. The all-time leading scorer for the Mexican National Team was officially presented as the star signing for the new Atlético Dallas, a franchise that will debut in the USL Championship starting in the 2027 season.
The Mexican attacker will be the face of the sports project with which the club seeks to consolidate itself in U.S. soccer.
Chicharito confirms returns
The striker announced his arrival through his social media with a brief message directed at the Texas fanbase.
«Hello, Dallas, I’m here already. Very excited to make history with you guys. See you soon».
Hours earlier, a source close to the club had previewed the agreement, which was subsequently officialized by the institution.

In a statement, Hernández assured that his goal goes far beyond playing out his final years as a professional.
«I believe Dallas deserves a club that reflects its passion for soccer, its diversity, and its future. I didn’t come here just to finish my career; I came to help build the future of soccer in Dallas».
The Mexican also affirmed that he seeks to create a winning culture and inspire new generations of soccer players in North Texas.
A new challenge in the United States
This will be Chicharito’s second experience in U.S. soccer following his stint with the LA Galaxy of the MLS.
The striker had not played an official match since concluding his second stint with Chivas de Guadalajara in December 2025. At the 2026 World Cup, he participated as a commentator before defining his next destination.
Atlético Dallas prepares for debut

Atlético Dallas will compete in the USL Championship from 2027, although the sports project has been in development for more than two years with youth academies and infrastructure.
The team will be led by former French player Peter Luccin, who had experience as a coach at FC Dallas and will be in charge of leading this new project.
Additionally, the USL plans to implement a promotion and relegation system starting in 2028, which would make the league a pioneer in professional soccer in the United States.
With this move, Javier Hernández begins a new chapter in his career with the goal of becoming the face of the birth of a new franchise in U.S. soccer.
