FBI Issues Worldwide Alert Over 2026 World Cup Scams

The FBI issued an international alert after detecting a network of fraudulent websites using FIFA’s image to deceive fans looking for tickets and packages for the 2026 World Cup.
Authorities warned that cybercriminals are taking advantage of the tournament’s approach to sell nonexistent tickets and obtain victims’ personal and financial information.
How the World Cup 2026 Scams Work
According to the FBI, scammers create pages that imitate FIFA’s official appearance and slightly modify web addresses to confuse users.
Among the detected domains are:
- fifa.cab
- fifa.pink
- fifa.city
- fifa.org
- fifa-online.com
- fifa-ticket.live
Pages specifically targeting fans from the host countries were also identified, including sites with Mexican domain endings related to ticket sales.
The 2026 World Cup, a Target for Cybercriminals
The high demand for tickets and travel packages has made the World Cup an attractive target for digital criminals.
Authorities believe the number of fraudulent sites could increase as the start of the tournament approaches and throughout the competition.
Recommendations to Avoid Fraud
The FBI recommended that fans:
- Type FIFA’s official website directly into the browser.
- Avoid entering through sponsored ads.
- Carefully verify the web address before making payments.
- Do not share banking information on suspicious pages.
A World Cup Under Surveillance
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
The tournament will begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca and end on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
Given the scale of the international event, security agencies will maintain permanent monitoring of illegal ticket sales and possible fraud related to the World Cup.
