The United States filed criminal charges against more than 10,000 foreigners for entering or re-entering the Arizona border on more than one occasion irregularly during 2024.
Among the accused are leaders and coordinators of immigrant trafficking organizations from Mexico and Colombia.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) released the final figures for 2024 on Monday.
It highlighted that the largest number of charges occurred in the last quarter, between October 1 and December 31, when a total of 3,141 migrants were charged.
US CHARGES MORE THAN TEN THOUSAND MIGRANTS IN ARIZONA

During the first quarter of the year, from January 1 to March 31, 2024, the U.S. Prosecution charged 2,113 migrants.
In the second quarter, from April 1 to June 30, charges were brought against 2,641 migrants.

While from July 1 to September 30, 2,611 people were processed.
In total during 2024, the DOJ filed criminal charges against a total of 10,506 foreigners for entering or returning to the country after being deported irregularly through the Arizona border.
Legal Consequences for the Migrants Accused in Arizona
According to this agency, the charges are part of the efforts of President Joe Biden’s government to combat irregular immigration.
This process establishes a criminal record in the record of the foreigners making them ineligible to return in any legal form to the country.
During 2024, the DOJ also filed charges in Arizona against 1,235 individuals accused of human trafficking.
Including minors and young people, mostly U.S. citizens who are recruited to transport the undocumented.
A Reinforced Focus Under the Biden Administration
The migrants who are processed in Arizona face sentences of days, months, or years in prison depending on each case.
The charges were achieved thanks to investigations and collaboration from the Tucson Border Patrol Sector.
