Trump’s Statements from the White House
US President Donald Trump said this Thursday that both Mexico and Canada act in accordance with his administration’s directives on border security.
“Mexico does what we tell it to do, and Canada does what we tell it to do,” he declared from the Oval Office.
The president boasted of having solved the border problem without the need for legislation, contrasting himself with former President Joe Biden, whom he again criticized.

“I remember Joe Biden always used to say: ‘I need legislation.’ I didn’t have legislation; I just said, ‘We’re going to close the borders,’ and everyone understood, because now they respect their country again,” Trump said in his statements.
Trump described the border situation he found upon returning to the White House in January as “horrible” and claimed it is now under control.
“Some people say it’s a miracle,” he added.

Cooperation and recent extraditions

These statements from Trump came after Mexico sent to the United States 26 imprisoned drug cartel leaders in response to a request from the US Department of Justice.
This move reinforces Trump’s narrative of direct and effective cooperation with the Mexican government.
The president linked such actions to his ability to apply pressure and secure quick results from North American partners.
However, he did not specify the conditions of those agreements or the diplomatic mechanisms used to ensure compliance with his requests.
Controversy over US drone flight
Meanwhile, a public debate emerged in Mexico after it became known that a US drone had flown over Mexican airspace in recent hours.
President Claudia Sheinbaum clarified that the flight had been requested by her own government, since Mexico lacks the specialized equipment required for a specific organized crime investigation.
“The request is made within the frameworks of cooperation so that there can be a flight by US equipment that is not available in Mexico,” Sheinbaum explained, emphasizing that the operation was carried out under bilateral agreements.
The incident reflects the complex relationship between cooperation and sovereignty in Mexico–US security matters, an issue Trump has made a cornerstone of his political discourse.
With his statements, the president seeks to reinforce the image of absolute control over regional policies, especially regarding migration and the fight against organized crime.
