According to the official statement, the goal is to recognize the president’s “economic achievements.”

The announcement follows another recent move related to the president’s image.
On March 19, a federal arts committee approved the design of a coin featuring Trump.

The design shows the president resting his fists on a desk.
It is based on a photograph taken by his team in 2025.
The image is currently displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
The federal arts committee, whose members were appointed by Trump, approved the design without objections.
This clears the way for the US Mint to begin production.
However, the coin’s denomination and size are still under discussion.
In the approved design, the word “LIBERTY” appears at the top in an arc.
Below it are the dates 1776–2026.
At the bottom appears the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The design includes seven stars on one side and six on the other.
Why is there criticism and controversy over Trump appearing on US currency?

The Trump on US dollar bill controversy has drawn sharp criticism, particularly from Democratic lawmakers.
The main concern centers on the legality of the measure.
Federal law prohibits a sitting president from appearing on US currency.
This has intensified political debate around the initiative.
The closest historical precedent dates back to 1926.
That year, President Calvin Coolidge appeared on a commemorative one-dollar coin.
The issuance marked the 150th anniversary of the United States.
However, it was not a paper bill nor part of regular circulation, unlike the current proposal.
The combination of decisions involving both bills and coins has increased the controversy.
The issue continues to spark debate over institutional limits and the use of national symbols.
