  • Negotiations remain unresolved

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, increased pressure on Iran amid a tense international scenario by publicly calling for the release of eight women sentenced to death.

The request comes just as both sides prepare to resume key talks, in a context marked by a fragile ceasefire and a conflict that continues to keep the Middle East and the world on edge.

Trump delivered a direct message to Iranian leaders through his social media platform Truth Social, making it clear that he sees this gesture as a starting point for advancing dialogue.

“To the Iranian leaders, who will soon be in negotiations with my representatives: I would greatly appreciate the release of these women,” the president wrote.

He reinforced his message with urgency:

“Please, don’t hurt them!”

The post included images of the eight women who are allegedly sentenced to death and raised concerns about their possible execution.

In the same message, it was claimed that the Iranian regime is preparing to hang them, while also criticizing the silence of the international community and human rights organizations.

A key gesture amid a paused war

Trump went further by directly linking the women’s release to the future of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“It would be a great start to our negotiations!!!” he stated.

The context is critical. Both the US and Iran are currently in a temporary pause in the conflict that began on February 28, sustained by a ceasefire set to expire within hours.

Uncertainty over whether an agreement will be reached or hostilities will resume continues to generate global tension.

The Strait of Hormuz and global economic impact

One of the most sensitive aspects of the Iran conflict is control of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint for global energy trade.

Iran has used the closure of this route as retaliation, directly affecting oil flows.

Before the crisis, about 20% of the world’s crude oil passed through this route daily, making any disruption a significant risk to the global economy.

Trump rules out extending the Iran ceasefire

At the same time, the U.S. president made it clear that he is not considering extending the current truce.

“I don’t want to do that. We don’t have that much time,” he said in an interview with CNBC when asked about prolonging the ceasefire with Iran.

Trump expressed confidence that an agreement could be reached in the next round of negotiations, scheduled to take place in Pakistan.

Vice President JD Vance is expected to travel to Islamabad to lead this new phase of talks, accompanied by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. However, Iran has not yet officially confirmed its participation.

The first round, held on April 11, ended without concrete results, increasing pressure on this new diplomatic attempt.

Escalating tensions after failed negotiations

Following the initial failure, the United States has maintained a naval blockade against Iran.

Additionally, U.S. forces recently reported intercepting a tanker in the Indo-Pacific linked to the Islamic Republic.

These actions reinforce a climate of confrontation as the clock ticks toward the end of the ceasefire, with the world watching closely for the next moves by both powers.
