County Attorney Mary Moriarty emphasized the national significance of the case.
It represents one of the first criminal prosecutions of this kind against a federal agent in the current immigration enforcement climate.
Moriarty stated that there is no absolute immunity when an official violates state laws.

Local authorities argue that the agent’s actions exceeded his legal authority.
The case also arises amid tensions between state and federal authorities.
The Department of Justice had previously warned about possible investigations into local prosecutors handling cases involving federal agents.
However, prosecutors maintain that this incident occurred outside the scope of legitimate official duties.
Agent Could Face Years in Prison
Second-degree aggravated assault carries significant criminal penalties.
Morgan faces a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison if convicted.
Authorities believe the agent’s behavior posed a serious risk.
The use of a firearm during a road dispute is central to the charges.
Prosecutors argue that the incident could have resulted in fatal consequences.
They also emphasize that the agent did not report being in an emergency situation.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue, standing as a rare example of accountability involving a federal ICE agent.
