According to the news agency EFE, a high school teacher died after being struck by a vehicle in Georgia following a prank carried out by some of his students that turned tragic.

The incident happened when several students went to the teacher’s home to throw toilet paper onto the trees on his property — a prank commonly practiced by students.

The victim was identified as Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old teacher.

According to information published by The New York Times, Hughes went outside after hearing noise with the intention of surprising the students who were playing the prank.

His wife, who also works as a teacher at the same school, said Hughes was excited about catching his students in the act.

What began as a joke quickly turned into a fatal accident.

The driver involved in the accident is 18 years old.

The tragedy also led to the detention of the other four students who were present.

They were charged with criminal trespassing and littering on private property.

They were later released after posting bail.

In statements reported by The New York Times, she said she does not want the young man to face charges for her husband’s death.

“This is a terrible tragedy, and our family is determined to prevent another tragedy that could ruin the lives of these students,” she said.

The community has also shown strong support following Jason Hughes’ death.

Neighbors and members of the school community created a memorial outside the school where Hughes taught.

The tribute was placed in honor of the teacher and his dedication as an educator.

The case continues to draw attention locally due to the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The teacher’s death occurred after a prank that ultimately ended in tragic consequences for everyone involved.
